Applications are now being accepted in the Office of
the Secretary for the DeBakey Society International
Fellowship Award. The Board of Directors and the Fellowship
Committee of the Society give this award to one or more
individuals at least every other year.
The recipient of the award will receive a $25,000 stipend
per year for training in Houston at Baylor College of
Medicine Affiliated Hospitals. Rotations are available
in all aspects of Baylor College of Medicine's surgical
program: cardiovascular surgery, general surgery, surgery
of trauma, transplantation, and others.
Applicants will be allowed to apply for a second year.
Each recipient of the DeBakey Society Fellowship Award
will be expected to actively participate in clinical
and/or basic research while in Houston. Ample opportunity
to participate in the care of a large volume of surgical
patients will be available.
Applicants must have completed a general
surgical residency and must have passed the ECFMG or
any other certifying examinations necessary to obtain
a temporary license to practice medicine in Texas.
To apply for the Fellowship, a letter
of support from the applicant's program director, documents
confirming applicant's eligibility for an institutional
or temporary Texas license to practice medicine and
a current photograph of the applicant should be submitted
to the Office of the Secretary. Following receipt of
these documents, the secretary will send a formal application
to the applicant.
